Implementing the Farm Bill > Comments on Regulation Released by USDA to Implement the Farm Bill

This section includes comments already submitted to USDA to assure that the provisions of the Farm Bill are fully implemented in a manner that supports their intent to open doors and increase equity and transparency for socially disadvantaged producers and farmworkers.

Why Continuing this Work is Critical:

Though the nation's agricultural producers are becoming increasingly ethnically diverse, USDA policies and programs have long failed to adequately include and serve socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers and have long failed to recognize farmworkers as a part of agriculture. They have also failed to engage socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers in providing culturally appropriate and nutritious food to our increasingly diverse population.

Much progress has been made and USDA has begun to institute changes. However, the DI's work remains critical to assure also that our communities remain engaged. Within weeks of Farm Bill passage, the DI led efforts to reverse severe cutbacks USDA, using new discretionary authority, took from the very important RMA Community Outreach Partnership Program. The struggle to restore that program continues.
