Getting Our Act TOGETHER on Farm and Food Policy: Collaboration in 2013
When: January 31st and February 1st 2013
Where: The Methodist Building, 100 Maryland Ave NE, Washington, DC
In early February 2012, 30 diverse community based organizations, national coalitions, and DC-based advocacy groups came together for a two-day workshop entitled “GettingOur Act Together on the Farm Bill” (GOAT). The goal for this initiative is to deepen the collaboration between groups, facilitate more consistent transparent communication, andenable a dialogue between grassroots groups and advocacy organizations. Through this process, we have explored the relationship of various policy packages to each other and identify possibilities for shared work on alternatives that engage grassroots leaders on the ground and lead to advocacy for equity in the Farm Bill.
Now a year later, we come together again in Washington, DC to bring ourselves back to the basics: coming together in solidarity for food and farm equity. This year we will focus on evaluating our first year of collaboration, reviewing effective strategies, and setting goals to achieve in the upcoming year.
Topics of the Meeting:
• Welcome New Members
• Develop a common understanding of the status of the Farm Bill and Ag Approps
• Understand our progress to date (review/evaluate accomplishments)
• Begin to develop an inclusive strategy for collective, national, and grassroots effort in policies impacting the food system
• Next steps for GOAT
*Please register so we can ensure enough seats for everyone at the table
